Unfortunately it is with great regret that we have to discontinue our Full Time Leaving Cert programme which started in 1993. Due to the effects of the recession our numbers have fallen in recent years and we will not be in a position to continue from September 2015 for the foreseeable future.

However we are Cork’s longest established tuition centre (1984) and we will continue to operate our weekly tuition classes for second level and third level students as well as our revision courses at Christmas and Easter. We will also continue to run our Leaving Certificate Irish Course for mature students
.
Since 1984 we have helped thousands of students to achieve their potential in their exams and we will continue to provide the highest standards of tuition in the future.

A cirque or corrie is an armchair shaped depression found in glaciated upland areas. It has steep back and side walls and is open at the front where the glacier moved down into the valley. Sometimes a lake may occupy the hollow and this is called a tarn lake. On north and northeast facing slopes small hollows or depressions are found. Snow starts to accumulate in these hollows and it is compacted and compressed under its own weight and all the air is squeezed out to form ice.The processes of abrasion, plucking and freeze thaw action all play a role in the formation of the cirque.
Plucking and abrasion lead to a deepening of the hollow. As the volume of ice increased the hollow became deeper and as the glacier pulled away from the back wall a crevasse called a bergschrund developed. Freeze thaw action on the back wall resulted in debris falling into the bergschrund and this material became embedded into the bottom of the glacier and the depression was deepened by abrasion. Abrasion involves the glacier using its load to deepen and widen the hollow. The glacier's load, which consists of rock fragments of varying sizes, was trapped in the ice and this load gouged and scarred the floor and sides of the hollow. Both processes, abrasion and repeated freeze thaw action were responsible for deepening the depression. When the glacier eventually moved downslope the hollow that remained was called a cirque. As the ice moved down the valley heat is produced and the meltwater flows into cracks and crevices. This can freeze onto rocks and obstacles on the valley floor and sides. Such is the physical force of the glacier it literally plucked rocks from the valley floor and sides as it continued its journey down the valley. This process is known as plucking.

Coomshingaun in the Comeragh Mountains and The Devil's Punch Bowl on Mangerton Montain in Co. Kerry are both good examples of cirques in Ireland.

An arete is a narrow knife edged ridge, which develops when two cirques erode back to back. Where three or more cirques erode into a mountain a jagged peak is all that remains. Carrantouhill in the Mcgillacuddy Reeks in Co. Kerry is an Irish example of a pyramidal peak.

Is iad seo na gnáth chinn a thagann isteach i m’aigne láithreach.

Ins an bhliain atá thart tá athrú mór tagtha ar staid eacnamaíochta na tíre. Níl sé seo ceart, coir ná cothrom.

Tá eagla orm nuair a smaoiním ar an gcóras sláinte. Faoi láthair, nuair a bhíonn daoine tinn, téann said go dtí an t-ospidéal. Go minic bíonn orthu fanacht ar thralaithe mar bíonn easpa leapacha ann. Bíonn orthu fanacht ar feadh tréimhse fada le h-obráidí. Bíonn easpa áiseanna sna h-ospidéil freisin. Cad a tharlóidh nuair a bheidh níos lú airgid ag an gcóras sláinte? Ní bheidh sé slán a bheith tinn.

Ón méid go léir atá scríofa agam san aiste seo, is soiléir go bhfuil a lán fadhbanna ag baint leis an gcúlú. Ach mar sin féin ba cheart dúinn go léir idir óg agus aosta iarracht a dhéanamh feabhas a chur ar an scéal mar sa deireadh nach mbeadh sé níos fearr dúinn agus don ghlúin atá ag éirí aníos.
How did dictators use propoganda and or terror to maintain their power?

Introduction:
Both left and right wing totalitarian regimes used propoganda and terror to varying degrees to maintain their power. In the folowing essay Russia, Germany and Italy in the period 1920-45 will be discussed in more detail.

Germany:
-	Ministry of Propoganda was set up under Josef Goebells.
-	Control of press.
-	Radio and film controlled by the Nazis. The People’s radio.
-	Education system and youth movements.
-	Film director Leni Reifenstahl. Olympia and Triumph of the Will.
-	Nazis hijacked the Berlin Olympics of 1936 for propogandda purposes.
-	Nuremberg Rallies represented the high point of Nazi propoganda.
-	Brownshirts (SA) were used in the 1930s to bully and intimidate Nazi opponents. Hitler felt the SA were unreliable and wiped out their leadership on the Night of the Long Knives.
-	The SA were replaced by the SS and Gestapo. All opposition was wiped out arrested and sent to concentratioon camps.
-	Jewish persecution intensified with The Nuremberg Laws in 1935.
-	Kristellnacht in 1938 and the establishment of the extermination camps after the Wansee Conference of 1942.

Italy:
-	Mussolini set up a Propoganda Ministry under Achille Starace secretary of the Fascist Party.
-	Control of the press and censorship.
-	Control of education and youth movements as in Germany.
-	Cult of Personality. Mussolini was the father of the Italian nation.
-	Mussolini used terror but never to the same degree as Hitler or Stalin.
-	The OVRA State Police were used to wipe out opposition. There were no concentration camps but there were penal colonies in offshore islands and some people were banished to remote rural villages.

Russia:

-	Stalin was a ruthless dictator who used terror and repression on a grand scale to maintain his position in the USSR.
-	The NKVD or state police were used to wipe out all his opponents real or imagined.
-	A system of labour camps called Gulag imprisoned millions of ordinary Russians many of them innocent of any wrong doing.
-	The Purges of the 1930s killed many members of the Communist Party and the Army. No one in Russia was above suspicion except Stalin himself.
-	The Purges culminated in a series of Show Trials which proved to be the ultimate in propoganda.
-	Propoganda was also used by Stalin and the cult of personality portrayed Stalin as a caring and sincere man who cared deeply for his people.
-	Towns and cities were named in honour of Stalin and his achievements during the revolution and civil war were glorified.
-	Education and Youth movements were controlled.
-	The Show Trials of the 1930s were the ultimate in propoganda.

Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini all used propoganda and terror to reinforce their positions. In Italy the propoganda had a comic element to it and many Italians saw through Mussolini’s bluff and bluster. Terror was not as widespred in Italy as Germany and Russia. Propoganda was much more effective in both Germany and Russia and for those who did not buy the propoganda terror and repression were used to eliminate any opposition.
